What are regulations on installing fire hydrant systems in facilities and warehouses in Vietnam? Thank you!

    • Installing fire hydrant systems in facilities and warehouses in Vietnam

Pursuant to Section 5.2.3 of the national technical regulations on fire safety for buldings and constructions issued together with the Circular 02/2021/TT-BXD stipulating as follows:

With respect to manufacturing facilities and warehouses constructed from materials that are prone to damage of fire, minimum water flow rate for determining pump capacity and amount of water reserved for firefighting specified in Schedule 12 must be increased in following cases:

      - In case of steel structures that do not receive fire protections in buildings of fire-resistance category III, IV (level S2, S3), as well structures made from natural wood or pressed wood (which is wood that have been processed for fire protection), increase by 5 l/s.

      - In case of flammable substances surrounding structures of buildings with fire-resistance category IV (level S2, S3), increase by 5 L/s for buildings with up to 10 000 m3 in volume. In case of buildings with more than 10 000 m3 in volume, increase flow rate by 5 L/s for every extra 100 000 m3 or for extra volume beyond the increased 100 000 m3.

Schedule 12 – Number of streams and minimum water flow rate for indoor firefighting in manufacturing facilities and warehouses

      Fire-resistance categories of buildings

Fire and explosion hazard level of buildings

Minimum number of streams and water flow rate, l/s, for 1 stream, for indoor firefighting in manufacturing facilities and warehouses up to 50 m in height and by volume, 1 000 m3

Installing fire hydrant systems in buildings, public buildings and administrative – auxiliary buildings of industrial construction in Vietnam

Pursuant to Section 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 stipulating as follows:

      - Buildings, public buildings and administrative – auxiliary buildings of industrial constructions must be equipped with indoor fire hydrant systems, minimum water flow rate for firefighting is determined according to Schedule 11, in case of manufacturing facilities and warehouses, consult Schedule 12.

      - When determining necessary water flow rate, rely to height of solid stream and diameter of nozzles in Schedule 13. In that case, calculate simultaneous operation of the nozzles and other fire suppression systems.

      - NOTE: In case fire hydrants use equipment with specification not mentioned under Schedule 13, guarantee minimum water flowrate for firefighting of a stream and height of solid stream as per the law.

      - For calculation of pump capacity and reserved water for firefighting, number of streams and water flow rate for firefighting in sections of public buildings that are situated at a height above 50 m must be 4 streams and 2.5 l/s per stream. With respect to F5 buildings with A, B or C fire hazard category with volume exceeding 50 000 m3, must be 4 streams and 5 l/s per stream.
